eBay, the popular online auction site, has gone green with the launch of WorldofGood.com, a marketplace for products made from recycled or natural materials.

WorldofGood.com is stocked with goods made in developing nations. EBay said it will have a "positive impact on people and the planet".

The auction giant said it has protocols in place to make sure that products are genuine. Third parties such as Co-op America and Aid to Artisans will vet products and sellers to make sure they meet ethical and environmental standards.

Products are offered in 15 different categories including jewellery, home and garden and health and beauty. All items are sold for fixed prices and carry detailed information about where they were made and often by whom.

"We created the WorldofGood.com marketplace to enable shoppers to purchase socially responsible products with confidence," said Robert Chatwani, general manager of WorldofGood.com.

"Regardless of the social causes most important to consumers, they can easily shop for items according to a variety of different attributes, allowing them to customise their shopping impact," he continued.
