What's hot on the web: barracuda

Web User takes a look at some of today's most popular search terms on the web and the stories behind them.

Barracuda

The web is once again awash with search terms relating to the US presidential race. Here Web User takes a look at some of the most popular searches today, as listed by Google Trends.

One of the top searches is 'pork barrel spending'. An obscure term for politicians making sure money is allocated to projects that benefit contributors to a campaign, it was something that vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin said she didn't want to see.

It seems that the obscurity of the phrase has led many to go online to look it up.

Another search term relating to the speech made last night by Palin is the term 'Barracuda lyrics', as it was a song by the band Heart which played as Palin made her way to the stage.

It turns out that Barracuda is the nickname Palin earned as an aggressive high school basketball player.

Pork barrel: The term pork barrel, while literally meaning a barrel in which pork is kept, is more commonly used as a political metaphor for the appropriation of government spending for projects that are intended primarily to benefit particular constituents or campaign contributors - Wikipedia

Barracuda: any of several elongated, predaceous, tropical and subtropical marine fishes of the genus Sphyraena, certain species of which are used for food - Dictionary.com
