The web is today buzzing with speculation about the launch of the first mobile phone based on Google's Android operating system. Android is the first operating system of any kind to be developed by Google and the G1 device it will run on is made by Taiwanese handset manufacturer HTC. It will initially launch in the US on T-Mobile's network sometime in October and will cost just over £100, though the precise information will not be known until this afternoon. It is also expected that the HTC G1 could be on sale in the UK before Christmas, perhaps joined by other devices based on Android. An announcement will be made at 1530BST today, and Web User will bring you further news at this time. Lewis Hamilton is also expected to be a hot property on the web today, with a decision due in his appeal against a 25-second time penalty that saw his victory in the Belgian Grand Prix awarded to title rival Felipe Massa. Hamilton's Mclaren team will find out today if their appeal against the penalty, incurred for an overtaking move on Kimi Raikkonen, has been successful. Again, Web User will bring you more on that story as the information becomes available. www.google.com/trends www.openhandsetalliance.com
