Fake forums serve up malware

Security experts are warning that cybercriminals have set up fake forums online in an attempt to infect surfers' PCs.

Cybercriminals are setting up fake forums on the web with the hope of luring surfers into a trap.

According to security firm Trend Micro, the forums advertise porn movies and when links posted in the forums are followed, surfers are taken to a page with an embedded video player.

When the surfer attempts to play the video, a message pops up on the screen telling them that they need to download and install a file or the video won't play.

Loucif Kharouni, a threats analyst at Trend Micro, said: "When users click the screen that says 'Click here to see movie' they fall prey to a drive-by download technique as the malware already executes without users knowing it."

Kharouni said that the Trojan horse malware that the cybercriminals are attempting to install keeps changing, making it harder to track.

However, the company recommended that you keep your internet security programs up to date and run a full system scan if you think that you might have been infected.
