Redsave advert judged misleading

Redsave has incurred the wrath of the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) for misleading claims it made in an advert for a digital photo frame.

Redsave has been warned by the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) that it must make clear in future ads that customers have to pay a membership fee in order to take advantage of discount offers.

A member of the public complained when he saw an online advert for a digital photo frame for £39.99 but found that he would have to pay £19 per month for a Redsave pass to buy the item.

Redsave said it believed the advert included all the necessary information, but the ASA disagreed.

“Although we noted that customers could cancel their membership without charge, we considered that it constituted a significant condition to the availability of the price and should have been indicated in the ad,” the ASA said in its judgement.

It’s not the first time Redsave has got in trouble with the ASA. Back in June this year, Redsave was found to have broken rules about truthfulness for using the term 'limited offer' without stating an end date for the promotion.
