Google's Web Accelerator tool, a browser add-on that made web pages load more quickly, has been discontinued. After launching in May 2005, the service ran into some initial problems with demand, with Google having to stop downloads of the product after reaching "maximum capacity". However, the tool, which was still available on the web in late September this year, has since been discontinued. A message on the Web Accelerator website reads: "We're sorry, but Google Web Accelerator is no longer available for download." A Google spokesperson told Web User: "Google is a company fueled by innovation, which to us means trying lots of new things all the time - and sometimes it means reconsidering our goals for a product. "Google Web Accelerator was a great experiment which provided us with a lot of material for developing future products to serve our users. We'll continue to look for new ways to improve the search experience and to connect people to the information they want," the spokesperson continued. Many users of the product complained of problems with playing YouTube videos and it was not compatible with Firefox 3. Did you use Google Web Accelerator? Did you experience any problems with the service? Have your say on the Web User forums. http://webaccelerator.google.com
