New PS3 and PSP firmware coming

Sony has dropped some hints as to what the new firmware for the PS3 and PSP will do.

Owners of the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Portable gaming consoles will soon be able to install new firmware for their devices. However, Sony didn't say exactly when they'd be coming, though it did drop some hints about what the firmware will contain. Eric Lempel, director of PlayStation Network Operations at Sony, said that the company had added "a number of new features and improved some existing functionality to make your PS3/PSP experience even better". PSP v5.00 will let you download games directly onto your PSP when you are in range of a Wi-Fi network, said Lempel. There is also a sleep timer option that can be used while you are playing music on the handheld device. The new PS3 firmware, version 2.50, will bring a number of changes, including improvements to the PlayStation Trophies interface, power-saving settings and in-game screenshots. It will also be compatible with a new, official Bluetooth headset. Some rumours suggest that the firmware could be released as early as tomorrow, 15 October. http://uk.playstation.com
