Facebook scam date offer

A scam targeting the Facebook social-networking website hopes to tempt singletons into revealing their login details.

The deal is based on a valuation that estimates Facebook's worth as $15bn

Security researchers have warned of a scam that attempts to arouse your interest with the offer of a date.

By using instant-messaging software, the victim receives a message offering a "hot date" if they click on a link, reported researchers at BitDefender.

The link actually leads to a spoofed Facebook website, which according to BitDefender, is a very convincing fake.

You are prompted to log in, but as you do, your credentials are collected.

"Users should be cautious of any link sent to them via instant message or email," said Vlad Valceanu of BitDefender.

The company warned that cybercriminals could use the information harvested to gather email addresses of your Facebook friends for spamming purposes or hijack your account.
