Web User: Blogging plant big in Japan

A plant that blogs has become a minor celebrity in blogging-mad Japan.

The pot plant - a hoya kerii, more commonly known as a 'sweetheart plant' - has been wired with sensors which measure bio-electrical signals and then translates them in to Japanese.

The plant's mutterings are then blogged using a computer algorithm.

There have been many incidents of humans talking to plants, but this is one of the first incidents of plants expressing themselves through blogging.

In keeping with good blogging etiquette, Midori-san, the name of the pot-plant which is housed in a cafe near Tokyo, 'writes' short and succinct posts.

"Today was a sunny day and I was able to sunbathe a lot. I had quite a bit of fun today," reads one of its typical entries.

The blogging plant is part of an experiment by engineer Satoshi Kuribayashi who has been studying how plants communicate.
