Google Street View - the musical

Two American artists have staged a musical in Pittsburgh during filming of the city for Google Street View.

Two American artists have created a Google Street View musical in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Street View, a feature in Google Maps, lets users navigate city streets through a 360 degree panorama. Google collects real-time footage of city streets using a camera mounted on a car, before stitching all the footage together. The idea for the musical, created by Robin Hewlett and Ben Kinsley was to get Pittsburgh locals out performing as the Google car drove by. Residents participated in the Street View video by staging a number of activities including jogging, putting on a parade and performing a sword fight, and the Google Street View cameras captured every moment. If you haven't yet seen the Google Street View car and how it operates, the video below gives you a good idea. Earlier this summer Google started collecting footage in British cities ahead of its Street View UK launch. As yet, no date has been announced as to when Street View will go live in the UK. http://maps.google.com/help/maps/streetview
