Freeview ad exposes digital divide

An advert for the new Freeview+ service has exposed the digital divide in Sevenoaks, Kent.

An advert for the new Freeview+ service has inadvertantly highlighted the variation in digital reception in one town in Kent.

Sevenoaks, mentioned in an ad starring members of the Coronation Street cast, doesn't have Freeview reception for all its residents yet.

According to the Freeview website, Sevenoaks residents with a postcode beginning TN13 cannot receive the service.

A Freeview spokeswoman explained that there were two different transmitters broadcasting to Sevenoaks.

Those in the TN13 postcode district are in the catchment area of the Crystal Palace transmitter and cannot receive Freeview. The offices of Sevenoaks Council, for example.

However, those in the TN15 district receive broadcasts from Bluebell Hill and can get Freeview services. For the moment, we'll have to assume that the Mrs Reynolds, mentioned in the ad, falls into this category.
