SearchMash, the non-branded search engine that Google used to experiment with new search technologies, concepts and interfaces, has been shut down. On the homepage of SearchMash (www.searchmash.com), a message states: "has gone the way of the dinosaur". A spokeswoman for Google told Web User the search engine giant is "continually looking for new ways to innovate in search, however since the launch of SearchMash we have launched other ways for us to showcase our new search ideas". SearchMash was first introduced in 2006 and unveiled to the public a year later. Essentially it performed the same function as Google or any search engine but it listed the results differently. Last week Google introduced SearchWiki, the new voting and commenting feature for search results. www.google.co.uk Save up to £16 a year this Christmas when you subscribe to Web User!
