Rick 'Rickrolling' Astley in NY parade

Rick Astley delighted New Yorkers yesterday by performing his Rickrolling hit during Macy's Thanksgiving Parade.

Rick Astley, the internet's favourite singer, gave a rare performance of his Eighties hit Never Gonna Give You Up yesterday.

The track has gained internet fame thanks to its video on YouTube, which people are tricked into watching in a phenomenon known as 'Rickrolling'.

Astley was in New York at yesterday's Macy's Thanksgiving Parade, where he made a surprise appearance on the Cartoon Network's float.

As the float made its way through the streets of New York, a smiling Astley joined children and puppets and mimed to the song.

Astley appeared in good form, but refrained from pulling some of his legendary dance moves from the original music video.

One fan who saw Astley's performance yesterday wrote on YouTube that it was the "Best. Thanksgiving. EVER". Another fan wrote: "This is the best thing that has ever happened in the history of our country."

Earlier this month Astley won an award for Best Act Ever at the MTV Europe Music Awards, largely as a result of an internet campaign.
