Next’s sale was the most searched-for over the Christmas period, according to data released by web-monitoring firm Hitwise.
The Debenhams sale was the second most popular, with Currys and John Lewis third and fourth respectively.
The figures reveal that Boxing Day has been the busiest day of the year so far for online retailers.
Traffic to online retailers increased by 16.2 per cent from the second-busiest day of 2008 - Sunday 30 November.
However, Boxing Day traffic to retailers was down 4.9 per cent on 2007.
As well as hunting for bargains in the sales, people were spending Boxing Day listing unwanted presents on eBay.
The auction site won just over 10 per cent of the market share of online retailers on Boxing Day, twice that of its nearest rival Amazon.
