Picasa for Mac launched

Mac owners are now able to download and use Google's photo-organising application, Picasa, on their computers.

Picasa, which lets you categorise, store and make basic enhancements to digital images, was previously only available on Windows- and Linux-based PCs.

The application was originally created by a company called Idealab but was bought by Google in July 2004 and was made available as a free download.

"We've focused on making sure this first beta of Picasa for Mac matches the performance levels and most core features of Picasa on Windows - and we'll be working on more refinements to the Mac interface and feature set as time goes on," Google said in a statement.

Though Picasa doesn't have the power of some more well-known image-editing suites such as Adobe's Photoshop, it does offer a retouching brush, automatic red-eye removal and a cropping tool.

You'll need an Intel-based Mac running version Mac OS X 10.4 or higher to be able to use Picasa for Mac.
