MacBook Wheel spoof hits web

With the world eagerly awaiting news from this year's Macworld Conference, satirical news organ The Onion has stolen the headlines.

Satirical news outlet The Onion has released a spoof video gently mocking the hype surrounding the Macworld Conference and Expo taking place in San Francisco at the moment.

In a fictional report, The Onion claims that Apple has launched a product called the MacBook Wheel - a laptop that does away with the keyboard.

Apple Introduces Revolutionary New Laptop With No Keyboard

In The Onion's video, an Apple fan tells the camera: "I never really realised how much I hated keyboards until I saw this thing."

Mocking the perception of die-hard Apple fans, the man even says: "I'll buy almost anything that's shiny and made by Apple."

Instead of a keyboard, the MacBook Wheel - which is "virtually unbreakable unless dropped or hit" - supposedly uses a scroll-wheel similar to those seen on iPods.

"Everything is just a few hundred clicks away," an 'Apple' exec tells The Onion's reporter as he demonstrates the method of searching for files on the MacBook Wheel - scrolling through an alphabetical list.

The Onion has unintentionally found itself being taken seriously in the past by the Beijing Evening News and even MSNBC, which presented as genuine an article titled Study: 58 Per Cent of US Exercise Televised.
