A Twitter account called DailyMail_UK has been forced to change its name to NotDailyMail_UK after a series of tweets resulted in complaints from the paper's lawyers.

The change in name was forced on the mystery owner of the unofficial Daily Mail account.

According to the site's administrator, the satirical site was set up in response to "a pathetic and rather lacklustre piece of 'journalism' in the Daily Mail."

With over 110 posts in just two weeks and more than 1,000 followers, the NotDailyMail account is now more popular than the Mail's official Twitter account.

Twitter is a free micro-blogging service that allows people, known as Twitters, to post short entries (tweets) of up to 140 characters.

The service really came into its own during the US election and also during the Mumbai terrorist attacks as people on the ground used the service to feed live updates of the terrorist siege.

The NotDailyMail account has been churning out tweets, which undoubtedly caught the attention and disapproval of Mail HQ.

Among the tweets were "GOD BLESS PRINCE HARRY! He's only saying what we're all thinking".

According to a post in the Probably Not The Daily Mail blog, Twitter changed the name of the account as it broke its regulations by impersonating another user.
