Valentine's puppy scam warning

Valentine's Day is a common theme for spam emails and experts are warning of a new scam that uses cute puppies to lure people.

Puppies

Security experts are warning of a new Valentine's Day scam that attempts to tug at your heartstrings with a picture of two cute puppies.

Spam emails sent by zombie computers on the Waledac botnet – the same botnet responsible for a recent campaign about Barack Obama and thought to be linked to the Storm botnet – feature the shih-tzu puppies.

However, clicking on the link in the email will trigger the download of malware, researchers at McAfee warned.

"This is a social-engineering trick to convince users to download the real threat. Don’t click the link to the executable, otherwise you will end up with malware," said McAfee's Micha Pekrul.
