Spotify opens up to all UK surfers

Music fans will be pleased to hear that the Spotify music-streaming service has been opened up so any UK-based surfer can join.

A free, ad-supported music-streaming service has now opened up so anyone in the UK can join.

The name Spotify is taken from the words 'spot' and 'identify', and is the creation of two Swedish businessmen, Daniel Ek and Martin Lorentzon.

Once the free program is downloaded, there are no restrictions on what music you stream. Previously the service was invite-only, but it has now been opened up to all UK surfers.

"Up until now we've kept a close eye on controlling our user growth with invitations so that we don’t run into any problems and to ensure that everyone gets a really good music experience when they sign up, so far so good," reads a posting on the Spotify blog.

However, Spotify wants to make sure its membership doesn't grow too quickly.

"If growth happens too fast and it starts affecting quality, we may have to re-instate the invitation system. Hopefully this won't happen," the blog posting read.
