The journey is over for the Twitchhiker, the Newcastle native who set out to see how far he could travel relying only on the kindness of Twitter members.
Paul Smith, more widely known as the Twitchhiker, ended his Twitter world tour in Stewart Island, New Zealand.
While he didn't make it to his preferred destination of Campbell Island, Smith still made it across three continents relying only on offers from people on Twitter.

Smith used Twitter to keep his 11,000 followers updated on his travels while scouring the site for offers of transport and accommodation.
"After two months of living and breathing this project, I’d reached my journey’s end. I wasn’t going to see Campbell Island, but it honestly didn’t matter anymore," Smith wrote in the Twitchhiker blog.
"The aim was to travel as far as I could from home as possible within 30 days, and by reaching Stewart Island I’d travelled to a place the majority of New Zealanders have never set foot on, never mind the rest of the world, " he continued.

Smith's travels, through the Netherlands, France, Germany, the US and New Zealand, have generated more than £5,000 for the charity:water in sponsorship money.
Reflecting on his journey, Smith said: "The Twitchhiker project showed that kindness is universal, that the whole can be infinitely greater than the sum of its parts, and that social media may begin online but it will converge with the real world whenever and wherever you let it."
