Google quiet on Twitter rumours

Rumours that web giant Google is to buy Twitter have surfaced on an influential technology blog.

Twitter could be snapped up by Google if reports on an influential technology blog are to be believed. Techcrunch has reported that the two companies are in advanced negotiations about a buyout, citing two sources close to the deal. What is Twitter? Google, however, remained tight-lipped, saying that it will not comment on "rumour and speculation". Many Twitter members are unhappy about the rumours. "I hope Twitter don't sell out to Google like everyone's talking about," one member wrote. Techcrunch said that it could be a brilliant deal for Google, pointing out that Twitter has become more of a search engine than merely a micro-blogging service. Twitter founder Biz Stone was interviewed by Stephen Colbert earlier this week.
