Leeds petition gets 7,300 signatures

A petition calling for an investigation of the 1973 European Cup Winners' Cup final has got 7,300 signatures.

The result of the 1973 European Cup Winners' Cup between Leeds United and AC Milan will be investigated if Labour MEP Richard Corbett has his way.

He has started a petition to have an investigation into the match, which Milan won 1-0, and has gathered 7,300 signatures so far.

"In 1973 Leeds United were cheated out of the European Cup Winners' Cup. Referee Christos Michas made a series of outrageous decisions in the final which allowed Milan to clinch a narrow 1-0 victory in Salonika," Corbett said on his website.

Corbett also alleges that Michas was bribed by the Italian team. He intends to hand the petition to UEFA on 16 May, the 36th anniversary of the match.

A Facebook group set up by Corbett had 1,834 members at the time of writing.

This isn't the first Leeds United online petition - one protesting at the decision to deduct 15 points from the team at the beginning of the 2007/08 season got more than 35,600 signatures.
