Virgin intros cap changes

Virgin Media makes a series of changes to its broadband packages and announces a huge expansion plan.

Virgin Media has been in trouble with the ASA before

Virgin Media has made a series of changes to its range of broadband packages, increasing customers' allowances while they surf and download from the web.

The changes will be incremental and Thinkbroadband.com said they should let users have a bit more freedom when downloading and watching services like BBC iPlayer.

Customers on the premier 50Mbps XXL package will continue to receive unlimited download allowance, while customers on other Virgin broadband packages have new download and upload thresholds.

The company also announced today that it plans to add about half a million more premises to its cable network.

This is the first significant expansion in more than 10 years, and the first 50,000 homes and business will be connected this year.

Virgin's existing network is currently in place to connect around half the premises nationwide, and it is likely that it will concentrate on these areas first.

However, Virgin has not yet released specific details of the expansion or where the cable will be laid.
