For the second time this week Google Street View has run into trouble, this time in Japan, where it has been forced to re-shoot all the photos for its mapping service. Google received a number of complaints because its Street View photographs captured scenes over private walls, a result of the cameras on its special cars being mounted too high. Google is to lower the cameras by 40 centimetres (16 inches) and re-shoot all the images. Google said in a statement that it will make "locally appropriate modifications to ensure a better user experience". "We have lowered the height of the camera due to the unique characteristics of many Japanese roads; they tend to be narrow, without pavements and driveways, and houses are built close to the street," the statement said. Street View is currently available in 12 cities in Japan, including Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya. It was launched in the UK in March, two years after it was first rolled out in the US.
