House of Commons Speaker Michael Martin made a statement about the expenses scandal on Monday afternoon and you can watch online.

You can see Michael Martin's address to the house on the BBC News website.

Martin has been heavily criticised for the way he attempted to stop news of the controversial expenses claims made by MPs seeing the light of day.

Several MPs from all parties have signed a motion of no confidence and Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg has called for Martin to step down.

Prime Minister Gordon Brown has not offered his backing to Martin, saying it was a "matter for the House of Commons; it could never be a matter for the government".
