Israelis targeted on Facebook

Israel's security agency has issued a warning to citizens not to share sensitive information on social-networking websites.

The deal is based on a valuation that estimates Facebook's worth as $15bn

Israel's security agency has issued a warning to its citizens to beware of attempts by militants to recruit them for spying via social-networking websites.

According to the Shin Bet security agency, there have been numerous attempts by militants to recruit people on sites such as Facebook.

The agency said that Israelis should not divulge sensitive information online.

"There is not just a risk of the leaking of information, but fear for the lives of Israelis who might be tempted to meetings abroad for money - which might lead to kidnappings by terror organisations," the agency warned.

The warning comes after an Israeli was contacted by a purported Lebanese agent, offering money for information.

Shin Bet said militants were tracking websites and forums visited by Israeli soldiers to try to gather information on security processes and military bases.

According to CheckFacebook.com, a Facebook stats site, the social-networking website has more than 190 million members worldwide.
