Hulu rumoured for UK launch

Hulu, the free video-on-demand service, could be launched in the UK in September, according to reports.

A free video-on-demand service with 3,000 hours of content could be coming to the UK later this year.

According to a report in the Daily Telegraph, Hulu is in negotiations with broadcasters in the UK in an attempt to introduce the service here in September.

The service is already running in the US and a source close to the negotiations reportedly said Hulu was trying to secure more British content from the BBC, ITV and Channel 4.

Hulu has not officially commented on the report.

Though the on-demand market in the UK is getting ever more crowded, no service offers content from all the major channels yet.

Plans for a joint venture between the broadcasters, called Project Kangaroo, were blocked earlier this year by the Competition Commission.

More than 373 million programmes were watched in the US during the month of April 2009 through the Hulu service, according to figures from web analysis firm Neilsen Online.
