Swine flu malware spotted

Malware that attempts to lure surfers into infecting their PCs has been spotted by security firm F-Secure.

Though spammers were quick to jump on online interest in swine flu, F-Secure said there had been relatively little malware exploiting the news of H1N1's spread.

"While there hasn't been widespread use of H1N1 themes for malicious attacks, we have seen some limited use," F-Secure said in a blog post.

The new attack involves a specially created PDF file that, when opened, prompts another file to drop into your computer's Temp folder.

This file then connects to three separate IP addresses, seemingly awaiting instructions to unleash its payload.

There have been several warnings recently about the security of programs used to open PDF files, particularly Adobe Reader.
