Microsoft unveils Project Natal

Microsoft has shown off its next-generation control system for the Xbox 360 games console at the E3 gaming show in Los Angeles.

Microsoft has lifted the lid on Project Natal, a hands-free control system for the Xbox 360.

Using motion-sensing and facial-recognition technology, Project Natal is still in the early stages of development and no information about launch dates or pricing is yet known.

According to Microsoft, as well as recognising faces, it could recognise facial expressions and judge a player's mood accordingly.

Gamers' reactions to the YouTube demos has been largely positive.

"Wow. Really just wow. This has so much potential. If all games could be compatible with this in the future, it would be unbelieveable just how realistic games could become," one wrote.

Others were more wary. "Has potential. I hope they don't screw it up," said another.

You can find out more about motion-sensing technology in Issue 215 of Web User, on sale Thursday 4 June.
