"Wassup, world? My name is Max Armstrong and I just arrived. My Mommy is healthy and so am I!"

This is the message in which Lance Armstrong announced the birth of his son on the social-networking site Twitter late last night.

Armstrong is preparing for his comeback to cycling's premier race this year, the Tour de France.

The seven-time winner of the Tour battled testicular cancer early on in his career.

He retired from the tour after his last win in 2005, but last year announced he would return, using the event to raise awareness about cancer.

Armstrong followed the announcement of his son's birth by saying that Max was hale and hearty weighing in at 7lb 5oz and measuring 20 inches long.

Max has also been presented with his own Twitter account, which is protected.

Later on he thanked the medical team and posted a picture of the newborn using Yfrog, a Twitter application.
