Travel firm ScotTravel has ceased trading, leaving an estimated 1,300 holidaymakers stranded abroad.

The firm, based in North Lanarkshire, Scotland, specialised in holidays to Turkey.

Many of these holidays were sold through travel agents, but some were sold through its website.

A statement on the ScotTravel site said: "We regret to inform you that as from June 4, 2009, ScotTravel Holidays has ceased trading."

"For any forward departures passengers should not make their way to the airport," the statement continued.

If you have been affected by the closure you should visit the Civil Aviation Authority’s website.

The CAA has stated it will be making arrangements for customers protected by the Atol insurance scheme.
