Fasthosts plays down email outage

Fasthosts has said that an email outage that hit some customers before the weekend was caused by a technical glitch.

Hosting firm Fasthosts has apologised to customers affected by a "technical issue" last Friday that stopped many accessing their email.

The company said that the problem caused many of the email accounts it hosts to go offline for around 45 minutes.

However, Fasthosts said that around 100 customers were affected for a longer period of time.

"Upon reactivating the affected accounts, whilst the vast majority were brought online normally, a small number remained offline due to a corrupt system file upon each," the company said in a statement.

The company insisted that no emails were lost as a result of the outage and said that any customer still experiencing difficulties should contact Fasthosts customer support.
