Firefox 3 upgrade hits 150m downloads

The latest version of the Firefox web browser was downloaded nearly 150 million times during the first 24 hours of its availability.
Firefox is the world's second most popular browser, behind Microsoft's Internet Explorer. Mozilla's latest update is version 3.0.11.

Asa Dotzler, Mozilla's director of community, said in an announcement on a blog posting: "I just read that Apple is reporting 11 million Safari 4 downloads in just three days. That's pretty amazing. I'd like to follow up that report with one of my own. Firefox 3.0.11 was downloaded about 150 million times in the last 24 hours.".
Mozilla released Firefox 3 last year, capturing a Guinness World Record for the most downloads in 24 hours. The latest release includes security and stability updates for Firefox 3.

Apple also released an upgraded version of its browser Safari last week - Safari 4 was downloaded more than 11 million times since its release last week.
Engineers at Apple claim that Safari 4 is significantly faster than its competitors and said its engine will execute JavaScript nearly eight times faster than Internet Explorer 8 and more than four times faster than Firefox 3.
