Opera Unite launched

Opera has unveiled Unite, a technology that lets you share data stored on your computer with any device that has a browser.

Opera has lifted the lid on Unite, a technology that turns any computer into a server.

It will let you share data stored on your PC securely with any other device with a web browser, negating the need for third-party servers when you want to share files with friends, family, or even yourself.

Unite means that you don't have to wait for files to upload if you wish to share them - you simply use the service to select what you want to share and create a link you can send to anyone else you want to have access to the files.

You can even use Opera Unite to ensure you can work on your important files no matter where you are, using any device that can connect to the web.

"Technology moves in distinct cycles. PCs decentralised computing away from large mainframes. Opera Unite now decentralises and democratises the cloud," said said Jon von Tetzchner, chief executive of Opera.

"Consumers have the flexibility to choose private and efficient ways of sharing information. We believe Opera Unite is one of our most significant innovations yet, because it changes forever the fundamental fabric of the web," he continued.

You can download Opera Unite from the Opera website.
