MP tweets job promotion

Sadiq Khan, the MP for Tooting, used micro-blogging website Twitter to announce his promotion to the Cabinet.

The Labour MP has been promoted to Minister of State for Transport in Gordon Brown's Cabinet reshuffle.

In a number of 'tweets', the MP said: " I have had a call from the Prime Minister...I have been given a promotion...been made a Minister of State and... also a privy councillor, and there's more... I have been asked to be Minister of State for Transport and a Privy Councillor attending Cabinet on transport issues."

Mr Khan was a human rights lawyer and chairman of Liberty for three years before becoming Tooting MP in 2005.
