After the end of O2's exclusive deal to sell the iPhone in the UK was marked by Orange's announcement that it would supply the iconic handset a third operator has got in on the act.
Vodafone will be selling the iPhone in the UK by next year and is inviting interested customers to register for updates on the Vodafone website.
"Vodafone and Apple today confirmed that they have reached agreement to bring iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS to the UK and Ireland in early 2010," a short announcement on the Vodafone site reads.
However, unlike Orange, Vodafone will not be able to sell the iPhone in the UK in the run-up to Christmas, when trade is likely to be at its peak.
Pricing details have not yet been set.
Industry insiders predict that Vodafone and Orange's deals with Apple would be good news for consumers.
"With the three major networks now selling the iPhone it finally makes it a true mass market device. The must-have mobile now becomes accessible to everyone," said Matt Wheeler, managing director of mobile phone comparison site Omio.com.
"Consumers should expect prices to fall in time for the Christmas where it is likely to become one of the top selling devices this year," Wheeler continued.
