Orange seeks mobile filmmakers
November 18, 2004
Claire Woffenden

PaperCut Orange is on the hunt to find the UK's first mobile phone filmmaker to coincide with the launch of its new mobile video-editing technology.

Called PaperCut, the technology lets mobile phone users on any network edit films they have shot with a video-enabled handset.

To take part in the Orange Paper Film Festival, filmmakers are asked to recreate scenes from their favourite films using paper characters, available from the Paperfilms.co.uk website or Orange shops.

Using PaperCut, mobile users can edit six video clips together to create a 60 second film and can add a choice of five soundtracks.

Kristof Fahy, head of brand communications at Orange, said: “Orange PaperCut is an innovation in mobile technology. It encourages people to experiment with the latest features available on the mobile phone while having fun, and provides an opportunity to learn the basics of film editing."

Winners - with awards including best mobile film and best video film - will be announced at a "glittering red carpet ceremony" at the Electric Cinema in London on 1 February 2005. Prizes include the Orange Palm de Paper and a pair of tickets to a London film premiere.
