Web unites for Comic Relief
March 14, 2003
Veronique De Freitas

Web users can help raise money for Comic Relief while surfing the net - as websites join in the fund-raising spirit.

It's the first time that Comic Relief has created a website that lets you make a donation online. The site has already become one of the top 200 most visited sites in the UK - attracting over 300,000 visitors.

Elsewhere on the web, for every person that enters www.tiscali.co.uk/events/2003/rednoseday">Tiscali's online chat room between 3pm and 3.15pm today and cracks a "knock knock" joke, the ISP will donate 10p to Comic Relief.

Tiscali works out that if up to 10,000 people enter the chat room during these 15 minutes, the ISP could help raise up to £1,000 for the charity organisation.

Another ISP, Virgin.net, is also doing its bit for Comic Relief with a special online charity auction. Web users have been battling it out to grab a year's free broadband access and a laptop - so far the prize has attracted a bid of £701, after an opening bid of £1.

Sports website SundayLeague is offering a Comic Relief T-shirt for £9.99 with all profits going to the charity. Everyone that buys a T-shirt will enter a prize draw for a DVD player.

You can also log on to BBC/ Red Nose Day and the Fame Academy website to vote online for who wins Comic Relief's Celebrity Fame Academy this evening. And finally, the www.littlewoods.co.uk">Littlewoods website is also supporting Comic Relief by selling Red Nose Day T-shirts.
