Internet HDTVs to be shown at CES
January 6, 2009
Web User

LG Electronics is expected to unveil a range of broadband-enabled high-definition TV sets at the world's largest electronics fair this week.

The HDTVs will include streaming software which will enable them to show movies from film-rental websites and are to be displayed at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), which takes place in Las Vegas.

LG has partnered with the online movie rental store Netflix in the US, so customers will be able to stream movies direct to the TV sets.

As yet no date has been announced for the arrival of the broadband-enabled TVs in Europe, but companies and analysts will be paying close attention to its unveiling and and pricing.

Samsung is also set to reveal plans for its new range of its flat-screen HDTVs which will allow viewers to browse a wide range of popular websites including YouTube, eBay and Flickr.

Other new technologies expected to be showcased at CES include "the first internet car radio", from Blaupunkt. A competitor to satellite radio, it needs to be connected to an internet-enabled phone to receive audio streams.

Small, low-cost laptops, or 'netbooks' are also expected to feature prominently at this year's CES.
