UK leads high def take-up November 20, 2008 Web User
Communications watchdog Ofcom has found that Brits are buying more high-definition TV services than those in Italy, Germany and France combined.
With 700,000 subscriptions for HD content taken up since 2006, six per cent of households in the UK have some kind of high-definition service.
This compares to a combined total of 500,000 households for Italy, Germany and France.
However, six million US households (6.2 per cent) have HD services, with Canada leading the way internationally with 17.6 per cent, or around two million, homes subscribing to an HD service.
Ofcom's International Communications Market Report also found that 86 per cent of the UK's households had digital TV services on their main TV set, up 9 per cent on 2007.
This is higher than the US, with 70 per cent of households using digital services on their main set, at 66 per cent in France.
