Petrolheads can now log onto YouTube to find clips of the BBC's Top Gear including footage of a race between a Bugatti and a light aircraft.

Celebrity interviews and reviews of cars from James May, Richard Hammond and Jeremy Clarkson can be seen on what is the first YouTube channel dedicated to an individual BBC programme.

The channel will also feature content from the presenters' other shows including Jeremy Clarkson's MotorWorld and Richard Hammond Meets Evel Knievel.

Simon Danker, director of Digital Media for BBC Worldwide, said: "Top Gear has a massive audience across the globe so we thought it was time it had its own place on YouTube. The BBC Worldwide YouTube channel has already proven its value to users, having generated millions of views since its launch in March last year.

"We're now expanding our portfolio of YouTube channels to reflect the massive online popularity of certain programme brands and to give fans of shows like Top Gear a dedicated destination on YouTube," Danker continued.

One clip already on YouTube featuring Clarkson driving the Arial Atom has had more than three million views.

BBC Worldwide also promised footage of a race between an Aston Martin DB9 and a train to Monte Carlo will be uploaded in the near future.

Meanwhile, the government has issued a video response to an online petition calling for Clarkson to be made Prime Minister.
