ITV claims British GP success July 9, 2008 Web User
ITV.com recorded some 400,000 unique users accessing its Formula One site on the weekend of the British Grand Prix.
Britain's Lewis Hamilton won in treacherous conditions in front of his home crowd but ITV was also pleased with its performance with 150,000 people watching video of interviews, highlights and live action.
ITV has shown live coverage of not only the race and qualifying on its website this season, but the two Friday practice sessions as well, albeit without commentary.
Marc Webber, head of content at ITV.com said: "We're delighted that we were able to offer some great content to fans of Formula One and were thrilled by the response from users. We believe we are well placed to provide a fantastic multimedia experience to any sports fan."
Webber was presumably not as happy about his namesake's performance in the race - the Australian Red Bull driver Mark Webber started second on the grid only to finish outside of the points after an early spin.
ITV will lose the coverage rights to the BBC for the beginning of the 2009 Formula One season. The BBC has already stated its intention to broadcast race coverage on the web as well as on television.
