Forget Gmail - here's ymail June 19, 2008 Web User
If you want to get a new email address then there is another option open to you from today - yourname@ymail.com.
Yahoo has begun the ymail domain in order to give people the chance to get an address that contains their name without having to add random numbers to it to make sure it is unique.
In the early days of the web, people with more common names often had to be inventive with their chosen email addresses when signing up to services such as Yahoo Mail and Hotmail.
George Hadjigeorgiou of Yahoo said: "After 10 years, the huge popularity of Yahoo Mail has meant personalised email addresses are in great demand.
"The launch of ymail.com allows more people the chance to get the email addresses they really want and to provide them with a brilliant starting point for their daily online experience," he continued.
Yahoo already has the Yahoo Mail domain but anyone using an address ending @yahoo.com will be given the option to change to @ymail.com or keep their existing address.
The new addresses will be available from tomorrow, but you can register now.
Yahoo Mail has 260 million users worldwide, according to the company, and offers unlimited storage and integrated instant messaging.
