YouTube UK's top Web 2.0 site May 21, 2008 Web User
YouTube is the UK's most popular website in the social media category, according to research from Nielsen Online.
The video-sharing website had a unique audience of 11.6 million people in April 2008, compared to 10.2 million for Facebook.
Facebook was the most popular social network, more than doubling MySpace's 4.7 million unique users in the UK last month.
Wikipedia, Blogger, Bebo and Yahoo Answers also appeared high on the list of the most popular social media sites in the UK for April.
Alex Burmaster of Nielsen Online warned that the social media category was moving fast and that the major players had to keep innovating to maintain the interest of their audience.
"Although social media is the undoubted web phenomenon of the moment, the leading players cannot afford to rest on their laurels," he said.
"Social media consumers are 'the fast and the curious' – always looking for, and moving to, the next social media service that can meet the need to organise and showcase their lives and interests more effectively," Burmaster continued.
