Microsoft has released four patches to cover vulnerabilities in its software products.
The company regularly issues monthly updates for products on the second Tuesday of each month.
One of the flaws rated 'critical' is in Microsoft Word and could allow a hacker to take over a PC and make it perform tasks without the owner's knowledge.
Other critical flaws are in Microsoft Publisher and the Jet Database Engine.
The fourth flaw, only rated 'moderate', is in Microsoft's Malware Protection Engine.
All patches can be downloaded from the Windows Update website, or if your PC has Automatic Updates enabled, the patches should be downloaded and applied the next time you are online.
If you run Windows XP, the third Service Pack will also be available through the Windows Update site if you have not already installed it.
