Ferrari's Felipe Massa, a double winner at this circuit, topped the time-sheets in the first practice session on Friday, though team-mate and eigning World Champion Kimi Raikkonen was quickest in the second session.

Raikkonen is beginning to stretch his lead over Mclaren's Lewis Hamilton at the top of the standings.

The Mclaren car seems to be struggling to match the pace of the Ferraris, with the BMW Sauber team also challenging for podium places so far this year.

Hamilton's team-mate Heikki Kovalainen has been cleared to race this weekend despite a high-speed crash in Barcelona two weeks ago.
