Wiki hackers target Denshaw April 18, 2008 Web User
Brothels, cow-shooting and a tapeworm epidemic – welcome to the 'quaint' town of Denshaw, nestled in the Pennines.
That was the information greeting surfers who logged onto the Wikipedia entry for the town of 500 after internet pranksters rewrote the history of Denshaw.
According to Wikipedia, Denshaw gets just four hours of sunlight a day and locals relax by throwing sheep.
Pranksters who decided to spice up the village's Wikipedia page wrote that until recently, the village "consisted mainly of small holding farms and a few timid brothels such as the Golden Fleece pub".
A further entry from the online encyclopedia calimed that the village football pitch slopes at an angle of 35 degrees.
For now though the 'mis-information' has been taken down and Denshaw has returned to normal, at least on Wikipedia.
A note at the top of the page states: "Editing of this article by new or unregistered users is currently disabled due to vandalism."
