Property search for commuters
April 14, 2008

Commutefrom.com If you work in London and are looking for a new place to live, one of the first things you'll want to know is how long your commute will be.

A new site called www.commutefrom.com, developed by 26-year-old commuter Ian Jones, combines data from 2,800 different routes to help you calculate how far a property is from your workplace.

The site is free and can help you find the best areas to look for property by entering your preferred journey time from the central London station closest to your work.

Options are then presented to you, along with information about the average house prices in the area.

"My wife had just changed jobs, so we were both working in London. It made sense to move closer as we were spending over 2.5 hours a day on public transport," said Jones.

"I ended up customising a train map, jotting down times for various journeys between work and around where we wanted to live. As cost was an important consideration, I then added house prices.

"It then struck me how it could be turned into an online resource that would be useful to a huge number of people. We've done all the hard work – a simple search is all that's now needed to arm yourself with the information you need to make a life-changing decision," he continued.

However, London Underground routes are not included outside of Zone 1, only overland train lines. Jones told Web User that he planned to add the rest of the tube network to the site in the coming months.
