Village People and Prince are to sue Swedish file-sharing website The Pirate Bay for letting users download their songs without permission.
British law firm Web Sheriff, who is representing the artists, will seek "several million dollars" in damages in both Sweden and the United States.
Other artists, including Van Morrison and copyright holders of Chet Baker's back catalogue, can also be included in the lawsuit, according to John Giacobbi, president of Web Sheriff.
The lawsuit will include the entire back catalogue of works from the artists involved, which includes over 40 albums from Prince. The Village People are mostly concerned about claiming damages for lost revenue on their huge 1978 hit YMCA.
Just three weeks ago four individuals involved in The Pirate Bay faced a lawsuit from Swedish prosecutors, who filed charges of preparing and participating in copyright infringement.
The Pirate Bay hit back by accusing Swedish police of a smear campaign against them.
