Internet Explorer flaw patched
December 12, 2007

Seven patches were scheduled for release, but only six were issued Microsoft has issued seven new bulletins, three of which are rated 'critical', about security vulnerabilities in its software, including Internet Explorer.

According to Microsoft's Tami Gallupe, one is "a cumulative security update for Internet Explorer and the most serious security impact could allow remote code execution if a user viewed a specially crafted web page using Internet Explorer," said Microsoft's Tami Gallupe.

Microsoft regularly issues software updates and fixes on the second Tuesday of each month, a day known as 'Patch Tuesday'. Last month, Microsoft issued only three patches, just one of which was critical.

Security experts cautioned that security threats are constantly evolving so it is vital to keep all installed software up to date.

"Some may have hoped that last month's single critical patch was a sign of things to come, but with seven bulletins issued this month, it would be unwise for anyone to let their guard down," said Yogita Parmar, a spokesperson for security firm Sophos.
